The Gratical HD Micro OLED electronic viewfinder uses an extremely powerful FPGA dual-core processor and the latest Micro-OLED displays to provide a hugely expanded contrast range. Our Micro-OLED display supports high pixel density with unparalleled resolution, true blacks, gamma and contrast range. The Gratical HD has 5.4 million pixels on a 0.61” diagonal screen no bigger than the size of your thumbnail.

The Gratical HD includes two HDMI and two SDI ports with cross conversion from HDMI to SDI. Weather resistant covers prevent moisture or debris from getting in open ports.

You’ll be amazed with how sharp the image is. The internal field of view is just the right size so that the image is large, but not so that your eye has to roam to see the entire image at once. It features a built in -1 to +4 diopter range and Zacuto’s latest anti-fog coating formula. An auto-closing eyecup door prevents sunburn display automatically without any action by the operator.

Mount the Gratical HD to your Next Generation Recoil via the 1/4 20 rosette on the side with an Axis Mini. You can also mount the Gratical HD with the ¼ 20 screw hole in the bottom. Included is the LP-E6 style battery with charger and universal plug adapters.

Gratical HD
We used the Sony FS7 Cinema bundle with a Gratical HD. The perfect VF for the FS7. Although I wanted the Gratical Eye, I lack have the proper power for it. We had to opt for the HD which we know the have the same superbness. I have strife with the original VF for the FS7. Too boxy and bulky. The Graticals are amazing. Clear, pristine and makes filming and fun. I also have SmallHD's Focus 5" monitor. What's also great about the Gratical HD is the HDMI loop. We ran the SSmallHD monitor into the Gratical HD and the that into the FS7. Flawless workflow. When needed critical focus, we used the Gratical. For monitoring, used the SmallHD. All using the single HDMI port of the camera. It being light for such a great VF, rocked on the Axis mini was great. Easy to move and adjust to where I needed, for the perfect and comfortable viewing position. Using the Gratical felt very comfortable run and gun shooting, as a point of contact. Kept the camera very stable. The look is so clean and clear. Quality unmatched. This is 1 piece of gear every Sony FS7 use should own.

I'm after the Gratical Eye. I have both or all 4 of my eyes on this great piece of gear. My next investment. Thank you again Zacuto.

Will do review that as well. 1 of my favorite pieces of gear. This bundle is the perfect kit for the FS7. The base plate is superb. To be able to lighten the run and gun load from the handles is A+. Being that the FS7 is mid-weight, between a DSLR and heavy cinema camera, to just grab and move is priceless. And then to just slide and snap right back on baseplate and tripod is an ease. I have the previous version where the baseplate screws directly to camera. Sooooo glad they separated the base plate and added the sliding plate!!!! Great move Zacuto!

The handles with hand grip is very useful. Going handheld and the ease of configuring positions of the arm extension is flawless. With one hand and seamless even while shooting. It made filming fun. Fun and gun shooting. Easy to fold up and set down if needed. It made points of contact with camera very stable. The whole rig just works. Built Ford-like tough and works. Really liked and enjoyed this rig. I have the MK1 FS7, so the handles I used didn't properly fit my original hand grip. I just didn't use the hand grip and still rocked the rig.

Looking forward to your next inventions and improvements of gear.

Thank you Zacuto!!

How did we function optimally without this?
Much has been said about the extraordinary array of exposure, waveform, false color, and other monitoring features that make the Gratical a perennial favorite of working DPs. Additionally, old-time film DPs like myself still love pressing their eyes up to a quality viewfinder to ensure the most exact framing, and to emulate the “film experience of decades past.” But let’s talk about adaptability. As a freelance DP, I’m sometimes required to use cameras other my own, often owned by production companies (as opposed to rental houses) and producers expect you to work with these under-accessorized rigs. That’s when you count your blessings if you’re fortunate enough to own and bring along your Gratical, as it allows you to use a different imaging system while it makes monitoring a constant. And nothing is as frustrating as showing up on set and being unable to adjust another manufacturer’s diopter settings to your eyes. (I’m looking at you, Alphatron - or at least trying.)

Best EVF on the market
I've used several EVF's in my career thus far, and Zacuto has set a new precedent with the Gratical HD.

I couldn't find a single issue with the EVF. At first, it seemed a little large for me. But with the addition of the new Z grip trigger for my FS5, the size actually benefited by balancing out my rig.

The Gratical HD comes with ALL the fixings. Seriously, from peaking, to luts, to zebras, and waveforms. This EVF is a cinematographers dream. From doc to narrative, Zacuto's Gratical HD is the perfect tool to complement any production.

This thing is built super solid. Simply amazing with all the features. Paired it together with the recoil rig makes it a real pleasure to shoot. I love that it not only has both HDMI and SDI but it can do cross conversion on the output. My favorite element is just being able to have a clean image with all the scopes etc under the image, much easier to see what you really are shooting.

Worth the hype
To be honest, I was a little nervous when I handed my credit card details over for this baby.
But damn, when you look at the picture and change the diopter for your eye you see nothing but sweet, sweet picture.
The size of the overall image is great. I was a little unsure when looking at the specs, but it really is perfect. It's just so clear. I can't harp on that enough, it's so clear. Did I mention how clear it is?
My c300 mark II looks amazing through this and I've even replaced my Red Epic EVF with this one.
Having buttons on the side you don't need to take your eye away for is awesome - and I love being able to customise.
Great product and one that you can use for any camera - although, I would try not to drive over it in my car like the Zacuto guys :)

The perfect viewfinder for any production environment
Working with the Gratical HD by Zacuto has made the lives on my production team so much easier. Our primary documentary camera is the Sony FS5, while it has two viewfinders on the camera, none come close to the clarity and usability of the Zacuto Gratical HD.

Providing a large beautiful image makes focusing and framing so much easier for the camera operators, producing a better final image.

I will be putting a Gratical on every camera I use going forward, no question.

Best in Class
I believe the Gratical HD to be the best viewfinder on the market. It's durable, ergonomic, and fairly priced. It's high-definition display allows me to clearly focus images, as well as import third party looks to my images quickly.

Would definitely recommend to a friend.

Would love to have this on every camera I shoot with
I have been using the Gratical HD for quite some time now and it has become an important tool for me in getting exposures right. I love that you can upload LUTs to it and the pre-defined LUTs worked very well, too. I still prefer the HD to the EYE, mostly because I use the four buttons on the side all the time to turn display functions on and off while I am shooting (checking false color exposure, for instance). Lastly, I thought the strange eye-cup design would annoy me at first, but it's turned out to be a very clever way to prevent the sun from frying the display.

Awesome Product
I always had issues getting exposure and finding focus while working outdoors in the sun. The Gratical is so clean and crisp, the sun is no longer an issue!

It has all the scopes inside along with zebras and peaking which I was always use to when using broadcast gear.

You can also add custom LUT's into the Gratical so you can see what you will be getting in post if you are shooting cine or SLOG.

Awesome bit of gear! Well worth the $$

Fantastic EVF!
Recently, I spent a couple of days filming in direct sunlight for an editorial photo shoot. Much of the work that I do is filmed in-doors, but for this project, I knew that I would need an EVF, otherwise there is no way I would have been able to see the back of my LCD.

What I loved about the Gratical HD was how easy it was to use. With most of the devices I own, there seems to be a bit of a learning curve to figure out how to use them. The Gratical HD was so easy to use. All I had to do was turn it on and plug it in to my A7SII. The screen popped up instantly.

The first thing that I noticed was how bright the screen was. This made it exceptionally easy to focus on my subject. Like other Zacuto products, the Gratical HD also very sturdy and gives me confidence that it will hold up after much use.

Eye Opening!
This is a must for the FS7. It is the only way to overcome two key flaws of the FS7 – critical focus and exposure while being mobile. I balked at the price until I looked through the eyepiece and used it for a day. It is also portable to essentially any camera that you may have. And yes, a good LP6 battery really does last 2+ hours!

Using it all the time
I am finding that I use the Gratical to view scenes both indoors and outdoors. It is amazing. I find I don't use the monitor hardly at all. Outdoors the ability to clearly see.

I find the size of the image to be perfect. I don't need to scan across the image. I can see what I am capturing in one glance. I don't seem to be able to do this with a monitor.

As for the size of the image inside the gratical, I thought it would be too small. I was wrong. It works incredible well.

This will be my viewing solution for the foreseeable future.

Instant Improvement
I will first say that I am not one to use viewfinders. Before using the Gratical HD I thought they were cumbersome and not part of a streamlined rig. I always have an a external monitor and this used to be enough for me. The Gratical HD may have changed me forever and I don't see a need for anything else in the market.

1. Filming outside in broad day light often makes it extremely hard to to your EVF or monitor. Having the Gratical is now a must for me in this situation. The improvement that I was able to get on focus and exposure on all of my shots was ten fold and turned my end product into ma much more consistent piece.

2. The image inside the Gratical HD is so crisp that by the end of my first shoot I was using it 90% of the time to achieve my shot, the colors are perfect and the eye cup is very comfortable.

3. Though simple, my favorite part of the Gratical the entire time of the shoot was its easy ergonomics and a simple on/off button. I have used others that can be kind of a pain.

Overall, amazing piece of equipment that Zacuto knocked out of the park.

Almost Perfect!
Let me start by saying that I upgraded from the Zacuto EVF Pro. This unit is light years ahead of it.

I love the crisp image and the scopes that remain on display at all times.

There is a strange color shift that occurs with the slightest angle change when looking through the viewfinder, which can be a little annoying. You get used to it after time.

The preset LUT for the FS7 to REC709 is much more contrasty and saturated than the one the FS7 feeds to the EVF. I'll need to go in and make my own LUT so I can get an accurate representation (this is necessary in S&Q mode). That being said, the ability to have LUTs is incredible and a must have for use with many cameras on the market.

I got mine as a part of a Recoil bundle so the price was right!

Battery life is nowhere near the EVF Pro, so make sure you have several good back-ups! The one it shipped with left much to be desired. For $3K I'd expect an OEM Canon battery!

What a pleasure
This summer I set off to shoot the first sequences of a documentary about the future of food. I acquired the JVC GY-L300 camera for the purpose and realized that I needed a better way to look at the images while shooting than afforded by the very compact 4K camera. I chose the recoil with the Gratical HD. After a month of grueling field exposure - I could not have been happier.

I shot in both low-light and very bright outdoor settings. The Gratical HD provided amazing detail and afforded me extraordinary control over the image - especially in low depth of field settings with fast cine primes. I will go so far as to say that, I wouldn't have attempted many of the shots (all of which came out beautifully) without the Gratical HD viewfinder support. Apart from just the high quality of the image, the on-screen metering and focus assist features were all very helpful.

I loved the fact that the Gratical HD comes with a default eyepiece cover that snaps back if you did not take it off. I have burnt a EVF screen (well, maybe 2 ;-) ) in the past when I stepped out from behind the camera on a sunny day. So really loved this safety feature.

The only issue I have with the Gratical HD is battery life. At this point the view finders battery life is significantly shorter than camera battery life.

Gratical HD
As a regular Canon C100 filmer, I was really impressed with how the Gratical EVF compliments the camera's ergonomics when used with the full Recoil setup.

The EVF was nice and vibrant, sharp and dead easy to setup. Looped well with an external recorder too and the built in meters are decent.

Only slight quirk was that when filming with the recoil and a wide lens, found it took me a short while to get used to the camera sitting back on the shoulder. More a quirk of habit rather than anything negative.

A Must Have
I had the recent opportunity to film in Beijing and Chongqing, China. With me I brought the Gratical HD and I couldn't have been happier. A HUGE upgrade from the original Zacuto EVF. The Gratical HD is extremely sharp. There's really no need to use any peaking or even the Red Peaking. The only times that I used the Red Peaking was when I fogged up the EVF. Other than that, it was not needed.

For the China shoot, everything was shot in S-Log. For those who have shot in S-Log, it's not the most interesting profile to look at. What I like about the Gratical is that you're able to use pre-loaded LUTs, install your own, or even create quick ones on the fly. For me, this was a major plus, as you can now view your S-Log footage in color. Another positive is that you can send that LUT out via the HDMI or SDI to a directors monitor. This makes everyone very happy on set.

Another major positive for me is having the waveform monitor in the Gratical. Histograms are nice, but having a waveform is key. Especially when shooting in S-Log.

If I had one complaint, I would say that the battery life isn't that great. I found myself going through at least four batteries everyday with the Gratical. Now a number of factors could come into play, heat being one of them. It was extremely hot in China and that could have played a major role in battery life. Another is that there is a lot going on inside the Gratical. If you are looking to buy this, I would purchase the LP-E6 D-tap cable so you have that peace of mind knowing your Gratical won't lose power when you don't have any spare batteries or an option to charge batteries.

Overall I highly recommend the Gratical and will 100% be using it again. It's the best on the market.

Perfect companion to the Next Gen Recoil
I paired this with my next gen recoil and a Canon C100 MK II - it's a matchg made in heaven.

First off the C100 MKII only has one HDMI out, by using this you have both an HDMI out and an HD-SDI out. Secondly the HD quality on the Gratical blows the viewfinder on the C100 MKII out of the water, plus it makes focusing even easier with all of the additions built into the unit.

Last but not least is how well thought out the unit it. They eye cup automatically closes in order to prevent the sun from damaging the viewfinder, you can brush the eyecup with you face to look into it while it's mounted on your recoil kit, and all of the buttons have the perfect feel that allows you to confirm your pushes.

If you shoot on the Canon C100 MKII, this EVF is a necessity.

Best EVF ever made...
This will be a short review because the simple answer is, "Yes you should buy this EVF." Incredible picture quality, great feature set, well-built - the list goes on.

One of the best gear investments I've ever made. I know it seems expensive - I was apprehensive about the price. But it is totally worth it. Zacuto really thought this product through, as usual, and it shows in so many ways. It will save time on set, and time is money, so in the long run it will pay for itself. And since it is so rugged, I'll be using it for a very long time, and you can't say that about the last electronic device you bought. Five stars.

Review of Zacuto's Gratical EVF
I had the opportunity to test the Gratical EVF while on a shoot with my RED camera at The Second City in Chicago. In short, Zacuto's Gratical EVF is pretty amazing, and I'd recommend that other filmmakers check it out.

Not only is the EVF compatible with my new RED camera, It's also compatible with almost every other camera out there.

I think every camera needs a good EVF to help filmmakers focus up their shots. Most of today's cameras come with small screens, which aren't as effective when you're on location outside on a bright sunny day trying to focus up your shot. Glare and reflection can make that really challenging. Even though I have a 7-inch touch-screen monitor on my RED camera, I still found myself looking through the Gratical to check my focus while on my shoot. A camera monitor is great to have and gives you a good sense of what your shot will look like on screen. But having a good EVF can help you ensure your shot is truly in focus.

What I like best about the Gratical EVF is that it feels like it's a part of my RED camera. It doesn't stick out like a third-party piece of gear. Finally, we have a solid viewfinder that works with every camera!
