Zacuto's Z-focus is an extremely accurate follow focus that allows the operator or assistant to pull focus.  The Z-focus can come single sided or double sided in studio 15mm or 19mm or in a lightweight configuration. The mechanism utilizes a set of gears that connect to and spin the focus ring or Zacuto zip gear on the camera lens. The white disk allows the focus puller or operator to create distance marks for repeatable focus pulls.

If your lenses are not pitched you can add our Zacuto zip gear to your lens and use the .8 gear that comes standard with the follow focus.


The Zacuto Z-Focus (Follow Focus) includes:

Starting February 2010, the Z-focus will come standard with a .8 pitch, 1” diameter gear, if another pitch or diameter gear is needed that can be specified when ordering. The diameter of the gear changes the rotation of the lens. The larger the diameter, the further and faster the lens will rotate. If you need more than one gear, those can be ordered separately.

Fast Draw Fast Draw

 The Fast Draw is a shoulder mounted handheld system that uses our DSLR baseplate. It comes with all black rods. This kit works on any DSLR camera with or without battery grips as it is infinitely adjustable in height. The baseplate attaches to your tripod plate using the standard tripod plate screws, (2) ¼ 20” and (1) 3/8 16”. Your camera can also be quickly released from the rig by turning the red knob then pulling up on your camera. The camera quick release plate stays mounted to your camera so you can quickly switch between using the camera as part of a rig or on its own. You can easily add the optional Z-Finder Pro by attaching the Z-Finder Mounting Frame (included with the Z-Finder Pro) to the camera quick release plate using two thumb screws.

DSLR Baseplate DSLR Baseplate

 Your Zacuto DSLR Base Plate is a highly configurable base plate which is adjustable to accommodate tall and short body cameras and cameras with battery grips. It also has mounting points to attach just about anything. It comes with 2 black 3.5" rods.

The DSLR Base Plate can accommodate 15mm rods on all 4 sides. On the front are 2 levels for rods. The top is for mounting follow focuses, matte boxes, zoom/focus motors and lens support if space allows. The bottom rods are primarily used for lens support and single or double hand grips. These rods can be locked via allen screw so as to not come loose if using only one side for a single hand grip. The rear rod holes are for rod extensions to support battery power, wireless plates, monitors and numerous other accessories that you may need when in a tripod configuration. The rod holes on the left and right sides are for mounting the gunstock and the offset shoulder pad and counterweight for hand held use. Also mounted on these side rods can be a top handle, monitor arms and the cage which would use both sides at the same time.

On the bottom of the DSLR Base plate are your standard ¼ 20 and 3/8 16 mounting holes for tripods, mono pods, steadicams, etc. The top plate is a quick release plate that with a twist of the red knob lifts straight up and off separating your DSLR with the Z-finder attached, from the rest of your rig. The red knob also gives you left/right movement to adjust the lens position. On the front of the base plate between the rods are 2 allen screws that are used to adjust the top plate vertically. The vertical adjustment is to adjust for different camera body sizes and maintain the proper lens height.

Indie Kit V2 Indie Kit V2

 The Indie Kit V2 is a shoulder mounted rig designed for the indie filmmaker. It uses our Universal Baseplate to mount to any camera, including the Panasonic AF-100, Sony F3, Sony FS100, RED ONE, HVX200 and other cameras of this size. You can mount a matte box, follow focus, on-board monitor and pro batteries off of the Universal Baseplate. The Indie kit comes with a shoulder pad as well as our Zoffset piece which offsets the rig so you can get your eye in the camera’s viewfinder. The Zgrips Beefy included with the kit are infinitely adjustable with un-parallel strength. Designed for camera packages between 22-40 lbs, each grip can be moved up, down, left, right, as well as fully articulate at the wrist.  The Zacuto Zwiss Cage is an all in one portable mounting solution for your DSLR and accessories. Utilizing our Zwiss Cage Plate, the Zwiss Cage allows you to easily mount articulating arms, rods, monitors, lights, sound devices, and more. The Zwiss Cage Plate has multiple 1/4 20" and 3/8 16" holes so your mounting options are limitless. You also have two 15mm Z-Release holes on top of the cage. Scorpion Scorpion

 The Scorpion rig is the ultimate solution to DSLR shoulder mounted shooting with an EVF. At the center of the Scorpion is our highly adjustable DSLR Baseplate, which allows you to mount any DSLR to the rig and mount your rig onto a tripod. The baseplate attaches to your tripod using the standard tripod plate screws; (2) 1/4” 20 and (1) 3/8” 16. Stinger For Canon C100-C300-C500 Stinger For Canon C100-C300-C500

 The Stinger For Canon C100-C300-C500 is an in-line system best used on long shooting days. It is a balanced shoulder mounted rig. It features our C300 Studio Baseplate which attaches to the camera with 3/8” 16 and ¼” 20 screws*.This baseplate features a pair of 15mm rods that are 12” long running through the length of the baseplate. You can quickly reposition the rods for various lens lengths by loosening the 2 levers, one on each side of the baseplate. On each side of the baseplate there is also a set of 15mm lightweight holes. The side holes take 15mm female rods that are locked via an allen screw. This gives users a virtually unlimited amount of mounting options. With these side holes, you have the option of turning the baseplate into a cage configuration. Another option is to mount a Zwiss plate with professional batteries off of the side when shooting on a tripod for better balance.

The Stinger includes our Shoulder Pad with 7” rods and Z-Lite 7 lb counterbalance weight for a fully balanced in-line rig. The more balanced and less front heavy the rig, the longer you can hold it without arm fatigue. This rig is compatible with any 15mm accessories. The Z-Focus would be a great add on accessory if you are looking for a follow focus.

Z-Focus Extender Z-Focus Extender

 The Z-Focus Extender is used to extend the distance between the focus knob and gear housing on any Zacuto Z-Focus. Moving the focus knob away from the rods is essential for compact rig setups with multiple accessories. The Z-Focus Extender is 4.5" long. The added distance provides clearance between an EVF and focus knob, making it much easier for the focus puller or camera operator to control the knob and see focus marks. This accessory can potentially shorten your overall rig length by three inches, moving the rig center of gravity closer to the user’s shoulder. Installation is easy. If you are using a Z-Focus that was purchased before January of 2010 or your Z-Focus gear has a hole in the middle instead of a metal pin, please call as you will need a different screw to mount the extender properly.
