DSLR Baseplate

Your Zacuto DSLR Base Plate is a highly configurable base plate which is adjustable to accommodate tall and short body cameras and cameras with battery grips. It also has mounting points to attach just about anything. It comes with 2 black 3.5" rods.

The DSLR Base Plate can accommodate 15mm rods on all 4 sides. On the front are 2 levels for rods. The top is for mounting follow focuses, matte boxes, zoom/focus motors and lens support if space allows. The bottom rods are primarily used for lens support and single or double hand grips. These rods can be locked via allen screw so as to not come loose if using only one side for a single hand grip. The rear rod holes are for rod extensions to support battery power, wireless plates, monitors and numerous other accessories that you may need when in a tripod configuration. The rod holes on the left and right sides are for mounting the gunstock and the offset shoulder pad and counterweight for hand held use. Also mounted on these side rods can be a top handle, monitor arms and the cage which would use both sides at the same time.

On the bottom of the DSLR Base plate are your standard ¼ 20 and 3/8 16 mounting holes for tripods, mono pods, steadicams, etc. The top plate is a quick release plate that with a twist of the red knob lifts straight up and off separating your DSLR with the Z-finder attached, from the rest of your rig. The red knob also gives you left/right movement to adjust the lens position. On the front of the base plate between the rods are 2 allen screws that are used to adjust the top plate vertically. The vertical adjustment is to adjust for different camera body sizes and maintain the proper lens height.

Single Action

The Single Action kit is a tripod only kit with a follow focus unit but can easily be upgraded to a shoulder mounted rig. The Single Action includes all black rods. This kit works on any DSLR camera with or without battery grips as it is highly adjustable in height. The baseplate attaches to your tripod plate using the standard tripod plate screws, (2) ¼ 20” and (1) 3/8 16”. Your camera can also be quickly released from the rig by turning the red knob then pulling up on your camera. The camera quick release plate stays mounted to your camera so you can quickly switch between using the camera as part of a rig or on its own. You can easily add the optional Z-Finder Pro by attaching the Z-Finder Mounting Frame (included with the Z-Finder Pro) to the camera quick release plate using two thumb screws.

Z-Finder Pro 2.5x

The Z-Finder Pro 2.5x is an optical viewfinder that allows DSLR cameras to have the correct form factor for video. This Z-finder will magnify the LCD screen by 2.5x and has a diopter for specific focus tuning. It cuts out any extraneous light and offers an initial point of stability by pressing your eye against our comfy, large eyecup. The Z-finder Pro 2.5x comes with a 40mm diameter Zacuto optical designed lens, anti-fog coated protective covers, and a mounting system designed for 3” LCD screens. (A 3.2” version is available.) The diopter allows you to dial in the focus to match your eye.

The 2.5x magnification is recommended in particular for users who are near sighted and may have problems seeing long distances. The Z-Finder Pro 2.5x has a diopter range of -4.75 and up (unlimited with extender frames). Users with 20/20 vision can use either magnification. It is a personal preference. This is the model we use with our electronic viewfinder packages. Your camera model is irrelevant when choosing between the 2.5x and 3x magnifications. If you are particularly far sighted (wear strong reading glasses) or are just looking for the biggest magnification possible we recommend the Z-Finder Pro 3x.

Jumper

The Jumper is an accessory for customers who already own Zacuto’s DSLR Baseplate, or a kit that contains the DSLR baseplate, and would like to have Gorilla Kit run n gun capabilities. The Jumper attaches to the wedge on the top quick-releasable portion of the DSLR Baseplate. You can then mount a vertical rod via the Jumper’s 15mm hole to create a kit like the Target Shooter or Striker.

Zwiss Plate

The Zacuto Zwiss Plate is Zacuto’s multi-purpose mounting plate. It allows you to mount articulating arms, rods, batteries, converter boxes and various other camera accessories to your support system. Unlike other cheese plates, the Zwiss Plate has two sets of industry standard 15mm rod holes spaced 60mm apart. This allows vertical mounting onto standard 15mm rods. A second set of rods can be mounted through the top of the plate if you wish to extend your rig at another level. The red levers enable you to securely mount the plate onto your rods. The Zwiss Plate is also designed to work with our new Wireless Plate for mounting multiple wireless receivers.

You can use the Zwiss Plate to mount a variety of accessories or brick style batteries and battery plates. The Zwiss Plate works with both Anton Bauer 3-Stud and V-Mount style batteries. The battery plate and battery mounted on the Zwiss Plate can double as counterbalance. You can still add more counterbalance by adding our Z-Lite weights to the back of the rig along with the Zwiss Plate. Our Zamerican quick release arms mount directly into the 15mm holes of the plate and are perfect for mounting lights, monitors and audio devices. EVF Gorilla Plate Bracket

The EVF Gorilla Plate Bracket is used to mount the EVF onto any of the Zacuto Gorilla Kits that use a Gorilla Plate. It can also be used to mount the EVF onto the DSLR Baseplate. The EVF Gorilla Plate Bracket includes a "sling" bracket which mounts to the Gorilla Plate or DSLR Baseplate using the two allen screws that also attach the red thumb screw block to the plates. (If you are familiar with mounting the Z-Finder Frame on the Gorilla Plate or DSLR Baseplate, the sling bracket is mounted the same way). At the end of the sling bracket is a Z-Mount Zwivel which allows you to attach the EVF Pan and Tilt Mount (included). The Z-Mount Zwivel gives you the ability to position the EVF in a few different ways. Attached to the EVF Pan and Tilt Mount is the ZicroMini. The ZicroMini then attaches to the bottom of EVF with its 1/4" 20 screw. This allows you to quickly release your EVF frmo the mount with the flip of a lever.

Also, if you are looking to use the Zacuto Pincher (Universal mini hdmi cable restraint relief - shown in detailed pictures), it will mount onto this bracket.

Scorpion Shoulder Assembly

The Scorpion Shoulder Assembly is an all-in-one shoulder pad system for an in-line Zacuto DSLR Baseplate kit. It is best used for traditional ENG style shooting with our EVF or a small monitor. It includes a curved Akton Polymer shoulder pad, adjustable top handle, and rods to connect the entire assembly to the back of your Zacuto DSLR Baseplate as well as rods to add a counterbalance weight, such as our Z-Lite.

The curved form-fitting Akton Polymer pad is a unique design built for ultimate comfort. The pad cushions your shoulder and positions a counterbalance low down behind your shoulder to counteract the weight in the front, resulting in a tremendously comfortable rig, perfect for long shoots. The entire assembly can also be articulated in multiple directions thanks to the built in innovative ball joint feature at the front of the pad. Adjusting the angle of the pad is extremely important for individual comfort. Another great feature is the built in top handle. The handle is great for taking your rig on and off of your shoulder, low mode shooting and easy carrying. The handle can be custom positioned up or down into the pad itself with the turn of a lever.

The pad assembly connects to the back of the Zacuto DSLR Baseplate via (2) 1” M/F rods. These rods screw into the back of the baseplate and connect to the shoulder pad itself via 15mm quick release ports. This quick release system allows you to quickly switch from handheld to tripod. The shoulder assembly also includes (2) 3.5” M/F rods in the back so you can easily add any 15mm accessory for counterbalance such as our Z-Lite or Zwiss Plate (with a battery plate and pro brick batteries facing away from the pad). The amount of counterbalance you add in the back is determined by the amount of weight you have in front.

The Scorpion Shoulder Pad assembly is not recommended for offset rigs like our Double Barrel kit. It is meant to be used for in-line rigs (like the Scorpion) where your eye is positioned in the EVF.

Top plate of DSLR Baseplate

The Top Part of the DSLR Baseplate is a great add on for those with more than one DSLR. You can leave this plate on your camera or large lens with a screw hole (like a 70-200) and quickly move from camera to camera or lens by quick releasing the plate from the rest of the DSLR Baseplate using the red knob.
