Your Zacuto DSLR Base Plate is a highly configurable base plate which is adjustable to accommodate tall and short body cameras and cameras with battery grips. It also has mounting points to attach just about anything. It comes with 2 black 3.5" rods.
The DSLR Base Plate can accommodate 15mm rods on all 4 sides. On the front are 2 levels for rods. The top is for mounting follow focuses, matte boxes, zoom/focus motors and lens support if space allows. The bottom rods are primarily used for lens support and single or double hand grips. These rods can be locked via allen screw so as to not come loose if using only one side for a single hand grip. The rear rod holes are for rod extensions to support battery power, wireless plates, monitors and numerous other accessories that you may need when in a tripod configuration. The rod holes on the left and right sides are for mounting the gunstock and the offset shoulder pad and counterweight for hand held use. Also mounted on these side rods can be a top handle, monitor arms and the cage which would use both sides at the same time.
On the bottom of the DSLR Base plate are your standard ¼ 20 and 3/8 16 mounting holes for tripods, mono pods, steadicams, etc. The top plate is a quick release plate that with a twist of the red knob lifts straight up and off separating your DSLR with the Z-finder attached, from the rest of your rig. The red knob also gives you left/right movement to adjust the lens position.
On the front of the base plate between the rods are 2 allen screws that are used to adjust the top plate vertically. The vertical adjustment is to adjust for different camera body sizes and maintain the proper lens height.

The Top Part of the DSLR Baseplate is a great add on for those with more than one DSLR. You can leave this plate on your camera or large lens with a screw hole (like a 70-200) and quickly move from camera to camera or lens by quick releasing the plate from the rest of the DSLR Baseplate using the red knob. The Zacuto Mini Baseplate (Z-M-UB) is a smaller version of the Zacuto Universal Baseplate (Z-UB3). The Mini Baseplate has many of the same features as the Universal Baseplate but was designed for use with smaller cameras like the RED Epic and Scarlet, Sony NEX FS100*, as well as DSLRs like the Nikon D90, Canon 5d Mark II. The Mini Baseplate can also be used with Midsized flat bottom cameras like the Panasonic HPX170, HVX200, Sony EX1, and other cameras of this size as well as Small HD cameras like the Canon HV20, HV30, and so forth.
The Mini Baseplate now has a ¼” 20 screw, a 3/8” 16 screw, and a locking pin on the base to allow you to mount your camera. If you need (2) 3/8” 16 screws, you can purchase our 3/8 16 to 1/4 20 Screw Adapter and convert the ¼” 20 screw that is included to a 3/8” 16 screw (Needed for the RED Epic and Scarlet). The mini baseplate attaches to the tripod plate with both 3/8 16" and 1/4 20" screws. The Mini Baseplate has up and down as well as side to side adjustments, allowing it to align all cameras with various matte boxes and follow focus units. The Mini Baseplate is supplied with 12” female/female threaded rods.

The Manfrotto 394 RC4 Low-Profile Rectangular Quick Release Adapter is designed to convert the mini baseplate or Universal baseplate to have a quick-release feature. This plate is essentially for use with DSLR cameras. It raises the DSLR camera to the correct height for use with matte boxes and follow focuses. This plate is supplied with 1/4"-20 and 3/8" camera fixing screws and 3271 Quick Release plate. It also has two built-in spirit levels. If this plate is being used on the mini-baseplate or universal baseplate, the z-spacer is not needed.

The Gorilla Baseplate for the Canon C100/300/500, Scarlet and Epic Cameras is a simpler, lighter version of our Studio Baseplate. It attaches to the camera with 3/8” 16 and ¼” 20 screws. The Gorilla Baseplate features 15mm diameter, 60mm spaced threaded rod holes in the front of the base plate that allow users to mount a follow focus, lens support or other accessories in front of the camera. The Gorilla Baseplate is not compatible for matte box use unless you have a height adjustable matte box.
The Gorilla Baseplate also features our rod port system on the side of the plate which allows you to mount an EVF
or other accessories from the side. The Gorilla Baseplate is great for building simple run’n’gun type set ups like the Target Shooter, Striker, and Recoil. It can also be used for a simple tripod set-up. The Gorilla Baseplate does not come with rods. Rods can be purchased separately.

The Studio Baseplate with 12" rods for Canon C100/300/500 is made specifically for the EOS C300/100/500 cameras. It is exceptionally flat which helps keep the center of gravity low. This baseplate features a pair of 15mm rods that are 12” long running through the length of the baseplate. You can quickly reposition the rods for various lens lengths by loosening the 2 levers, one on each side of the baseplate.
On each side of the baseplate there is also a set of 15mm lightweight holes. The side holes take 15mm female rods that are locked via an Allen screw.
