The Scorpion rig is the ultimate solution to DSLR shoulder mounted shooting with an EVF. At the center of the Scorpion is our highly adjustable DSLR Baseplate, which allows you to mount any DSLR to the rig and mount your rig onto a tripod. The baseplate attaches to your tripod using the standard tripod plate screws; (2) 1/4” 20 and (1) 3/8” 16. You can also easily quick release your camera from the rig by turning the red knob on the side of the baseplate and pulling up on your camera. This unique feature allows you to quickly switch between using the camera on its own or as part of your rig.

The Scorpion includes a super comfortable and adjustable Akton Polymer form-fitting shoulder pad with built in top handle, Zgrips V3 with 4.5" rods, a 7lb Z-Lite and the EVF Scorpion Mount for our EVF or small monitor. It is compatible with any 15mm lightweight accessories.

Zwiss Plate

The Zacuto Zwiss Plate is Zacuto’s multi-purpose mounting plate. It allows you to mount articulating arms, rods, batteries, converter boxes and various other camera accessories to your support system. Unlike other cheese plates, the Zwiss Plate has two sets of industry standard 15mm rod holes spaced 60mm apart. This allows vertical mounting onto standard 15mm rods. A second set of rods can be mounted through the top of the plate if you wish to extend your rig at another level. The red levers enable you to securely mount the plate onto your rods. The Zwiss Plate is also designed to work with our new Wireless Plate for mounting multiple wireless receivers.

You can use the Zwiss Plate to mount a variety of accessories or brick style batteries and battery plates. The Zwiss Plate works with both Anton Bauer 3-Stud and V-Mount style batteries. The battery plate and battery mounted on the Zwiss Plate can double as counterbalance. You can still add more counterbalance by adding our Z-Lite weights to the back of the rig along with the Zwiss Plate. Our Zamerican quick release arms mount directly into the 15mm holes of the plate and are perfect for mounting lights, monitors and audio devices. EVF Flip

The Zacuto Electronic Viewfinder (EVF) is a 3.2” high resolution monitor to be used in conjunction with any Z-Finder model. The EVF is compatible with all cameras that have an HDMI output, including most DSLRs, the Panasonic AF-100, Sony F3, RED ONE, RED Scarlet and RED Epic. The EVF is compatible with the Blackmagic Camera (or other camera with no HDMI output) with use of the Blackmagic HD-SDI to HDMI mini converter. The EVF allows you to operate with your camera "in-line" with your rod system and an offset viewfinder in front of your eye. We believe, this traditional film camera and ENG camera style of shooting is the most stable and comfortable. Now we can work this way with any camera! The EVF enhances the stability of any set up, gives you better resolution and focus ability, allows you to get your eye where it most comfortably needs to be, enables low mode shooting, and shortens a shoulder mounted camera package. With an external viewfinder, you’re no longer trapped behind the back of your camera. You can have your camera on a dolly or crane or in a car or anywhere and have the EVF in your hand.

The EVF Flip has a Z-Finder frame built into the unit that can be flipped open to 180 degrees. If a producer/client/director etc. wants to see into the viewfinder, you can flip it open instead of having to adjust so they can get their eye to the loupe. You can also pop off the Z-Finder and use the EVF as a monitor similar to the EVF Snap. The EVF Flip is compatible with any Z-finder.

Scorpion Shoulder Assembly

The Scorpion Shoulder Assembly is an all-in-one shoulder pad system for an in-line Zacuto DSLR Baseplate kit. It is best used for traditional ENG style shooting with our EVF or a small monitor. It includes a curved Akton Polymer shoulder pad, adjustable top handle, and rods to connect the entire assembly to the back of your Zacuto DSLR Baseplate as well as rods to add a counterbalance weight, such as our Z-Lite.

The curved form-fitting Akton Polymer pad is a unique design built for ultimate comfort. The pad cushions your shoulder and positions a counterbalance low down behind your shoulder to counteract the weight in the front, resulting in a tremendously comfortable rig, perfect for long shoots. The entire assembly can also be articulated in multiple directions thanks to the built in innovative ball joint feature at the front of the pad. Adjusting the angle of the pad is extremely important for individual comfort. Another great feature is the built in top handle. The handle is great for taking your rig on and off of your shoulder, low mode shooting and easy carrying. The handle can be custom positioned up or down into the pad itself with the turn of a lever.

The pad assembly connects to the back of the Zacuto DSLR Baseplate via (2) 1” M/F rods. These rods screw into the back of the baseplate and connect to the shoulder pad itself via 15mm quick release ports. This quick release system allows you to quickly switch from handheld to tripod. The shoulder assembly also includes (2) 3.5” M/F rods in the back so you can easily add any 15mm accessory for counterbalance such as our Z-Lite or Zwiss Plate (with a battery plate and pro brick batteries facing away from the pad). The amount of counterbalance you add in the back is determined by the amount of weight you have in front.

The Scorpion Shoulder Pad assembly is not recommended for offset rigs like our Double Barrel kit. It is meant to be used for in-line rigs (like the Scorpion) where your eye is positioned in the EVF.

The FC1 USB Focus Controller gives the photo and video enthusiast a compact yet powerful device that enhances the capabilities of HD video enabled Canon EOS Digital SLR cameras. Like Canon's EOS Utility, the FC1 uses Canon's USB protocol to allow control of a wide range of functions, but without the limitations and bulk of being tethered to a computer. The device is handheld, weighing under 5 oz. including batteries, and less than 3" in diameter. It is connected to your camera with a standard mini-B to A USB cable, and can be used as a remote control or attached to a rig using a 1/4"-20 mount located on the back of the anodized aluminum enclosure.

The FC1 uses the autofocus motor in lenses to control focus, even while recording video. This also works in any Live View modes, which can be useful for photography. The HDMI output can still be used in tandem with the controller, as well. The nine other switches located around the central focus knob can be used to access important camera functions, such as video start/stop, digital zoom, saving focus points, and adjusting camera settings. If your intended use is as a remote control for a camera mounted on a crane or jib, the FC1 has been successfully tested with non-powered USB extension cables past 25 meters in length.

It is important that potential users understand how Canon's USB implementation affects the FC1. Certain characteristics of Canon's design make it perform quite differently than a mechanical follow focus, so it is recommended that you read the User Guide and the Canon USB Protocol article.

MC1 USB Mini Controller

The Okii MC1 is a wired USB remote, designed for Canon EOS Digital SLR cameras with video capability. Similar to the EOS Utility on a computer, the MC1 uses Canon's USB protocol to allow control of a wide range of abilities, but without the limitations and bulk of being tethered to a computer. When mounted near a rig handle, it provides easy access to camera functions such as video start/stop, digital zoom, and settings changes. The MC1 can also be used at longer distances (e.g., on a crane or boom) with non-powered USB extension cables. An optional automatic recording restart feature is included, which can stop and restart video recording at 11-minute intervals for long film sequences, or can act as a fail safe.

The MC1 is approximately 3" x 1.5" x .75" and weighs about 3 ounces. It connects to your camera with a standard mini-B to A USB cable (the same cable you use to connect your camera to a computer). Three 1/4"-20 mounting points on the top and sides are provided to secure the MC1 to a rig or handle, as shown below using a Function Micro Clamp:
